- Vala frá Sólvangi is doing well in Denmark

These last two months have been really tough on both men and horses due to the horse flue and the volcano ash. Here at Sólvangur we stopped riding in early May and now we are getting started again. And most of the horses seem to be getting healthy again. Despite of that we are very proud of our breeding. And more and more fantastic horses from Sólvangur are getting in training and showing great potentials both as breeding horses and competition horses. We have been getting news from the 5 year old mare Vala frá Sólvangi and people seem to like her a lot ;) We sold her when she was 4 and she belongs to very good friends of ours in Denmark. She is the daughter of the elite mare Steinvör frá Nautabúi and Leiknir frá Vakurstöðum. Vala was early on a very nice mare and showed all gates straight in the beginning and it was very easy for her to carry her self. Now it will be exciting to see how she will progress and hopefully we will see her on the next WM :)

Sylgja frá Sólvangi got first price

- A fourgated mare with 9 for tölt and spirit

One of our first foals that were born here at Sólvangur is the 7 year old mare Sylgja. And she got a great score in a breeding show in the beginning of July at Hella, 8.05, and became an elite mare. She got for an example 9 for tölt and spirit. We sold her 2 years ago to a good friend of ours and he has been taking very good care of her as can be seen.

We have a very promising sister of Sylgja called Hespa. Their mother Loka frá Vogsósum (daughter of Kolfinnur frá Kjarnholtum) was a very good fourgated competition horse with with great speed in her gates and very high leg movements. And Hespa´s father is Mjölnir frá Sandhólaferju which got 10 for tölt in a breeding show. We think Hespa is getting better and better every day and we believe she has high potentials as well.

Pjetur and Þytur

It is not newsworthy when most of us go out horse riding here at Sólvangur. However it is when Pjetur wants to ride. And last weekend he went out riding on Þytur frá Kálfhóli which has been very successful in competitions with both Elsa and Sigga over the last few years. This is the first time Pjetur is riding the experienced competition horse and roomer has it that Pjetur also wants to compete on Þytur at Landsmót. So maybe this was the first practice.

Sigga on Frosti frá Ey. We are heading to the South Championship to compete in tölt or T II.

Agnes Hekla and Váli. Agnes has been working here this summer. She is a very promising rider and so much fun ;)

We have been very busy this summer here at Sólvangur with riding, teaching, making hey, painting houses and ... There are many nice horses in training and we recently bought a first price stallion called Farsæll (see to the right).

We have been competing a little. Sigga and Þytur got into the first place in A flokkur at a Gæðinga competition the other day and got a total score of 8,63 . He was pacing really well and the judges were showing some 9.

Then we are all just waiting for the WM in Holland. Pjetur is going to judge there but the rest of us are just going there to have fun :) Hopefully the weather will be nice.

Farsæll frá Neskaupstað and Elsa. We have just bought Farsæll. He is a first price stallion after Gustur frá Hóli and Eyrún frá Stóra-Sandfelli 2 . He has a total score of 8,06. He has 8,5 for tölt, 9 for trot and 7,5 for pace. We ride him though as a fourgater. Farsæll is a very nice and talented horse in every way and he has a great mind. So we are really happy to welcome him here at Sólvangur.
